Doctrinal Foundations: A Learning Lecture E-Book

📖 Doctrinal Foundations

A Comprehensive Learning Lecture E-Book with Biblical References

Introduction to Doctrinal Foundations

Welcome to this comprehensive study of Christian doctrinal foundations. This e-book provides a systematic examination of core biblical teachings that form the bedrock of Christian faith and practice.

Purpose and Scope

The study of doctrine is essential for every believer. As the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy, we must be equipped with sound doctrine to teach, correct, and train in righteousness.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

How to Use This E-Book

Each chapter builds upon previous concepts. Interactive footnotes provide additional biblical context and cross-references. Take time to study the referenced passages in your Bible for deeper understanding.

The Authority of Scripture

Divine Inspiration

The Bible claims divine authorship through human instruments. Peter explains that prophecy never came by human will, but holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” – 2 Peter 1:20-21

Inerrancy and Infallibility

Scripture is without error in its original manuscripts. The law of the Lord is perfect, and every word of God proves true.

Sufficiency of Scripture

The Bible contains all necessary truth for salvation and Christian living. From childhood, Scripture can make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

The Doctrine of the Trinity

One God in Three Persons

The Trinity is the biblical teaching that God exists as one essence in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Shema declares God’s unity, while the Great Commission reveals the three persons.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 28:19

The Father

The Father is the first person of the Trinity, who chose us before the foundation of the world and sent His Son for our redemption.

The Son

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, sent by the Father to teach and remind us of Christ’s words.

The Doctrine of Salvation

Human Sinfulness

All humanity has fallen short of God’s glory. All have sinned and fall short of God’s perfect standard, making salvation necessary.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” – Romans 3:23-24

Justification by Faith

Salvation comes through faith alone, not works. By grace we are saved through faith, and this is not from ourselves but God’s gift.

Regeneration

The Holy Spirit gives new birth to believers. We must be born again to see the kingdom of God.

Sanctification

Believers are progressively made holy. God sanctifies us completely in spirit, soul, and body.

The Doctrine of the Church

The Body of Christ

The church is the body of Christ, composed of all believers. We are all members of one body, each with different gifts and functions.

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27

Church Leadership

God has appointed leaders for the church’s edification. Christ gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to equip the saints.

Church Ordinances

Baptism and communion are the two ordinances Christ established. Baptism follows the Trinitarian formula, and communion proclaims Christ’s death.

The Doctrine of Last Things

Second Coming of Christ

Jesus will return personally and visibly. He will come back in the same way the disciples saw Him ascend to heaven.

“They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’” – Acts 1:10-11

Resurrection of the Dead

All people will be resurrected. All in the graves will hear His voice and come forth to judgment.

Final Judgment

God will judge all humanity. The dead will be judged according to their works as recorded in the books.

Eternal State

Believers will enjoy eternal life with God, while unbelievers face eternal separation. God will make all things new in the new heaven and earth.
